Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)

EMDR is a therapy which utilizes your body’s natural healing abilities, does not require you to talk in detail about your experiences, and often requires a shorter length of treatment than other therapy modalities.

Talking and sharing details about the most terrifying, embarrassing, shameful, horrific, and traumatic moments in life is beyond challenging! And, the experiences and emotions remain trapped.

Additionally, when the body protects, it amplifies some resources, while limiting others. This can cause significant difficulties in accessing language and memory to describe and make sense of traumatic events, an essential element of traditional talk therapy.

How EMDR Helps

EMDR is an extremely effective and evidenced based therapy, which does not require people to speak in detail about the events and situations they have experienced. Rather, it capitalizes on the extensive research findings of the impacts of trauma and how the body heals; EMDR rapidly processes and decreases the emotional intensity of trauma by utilizing bilateral (alternating between sides) movements, one of the body’s natural system for processing information (similar to what happens when you dream).
